What your one-page monthly report is, and how it differs from a campaign report

Your one-page monthly report shows ad spend, recorded calls and forms, cost per contact, and the next decision. This is how it differs from a campaign report.

Contents (8 sections)

Your one-page monthly report is a short owner-facing summary of where the ad money went and what it brought in. Every month I send one. It is the deliverable I promise.

A campaign report describes everything that happened inside the advertising platform. The one-page report keeps only what you need to decide on next month’s budget.

The useful question is not how many impressions the campaign received. It is this:

Should this account receive another dollar next month, and what did the last dollar buy?

The short answer

A campaign report is a platform document. Your one-page monthly report is a decision document. It has three parts: money in, what it brought in, and a verdict. Every line carries a named source. It counts calls and forms, tested and counted once. It does not claim jobs, revenue, or profit.

The three parts

Your one-page monthly report

The structure is simple. The definitions are not optional.

Money out Ad spend for a named date range and campaign scope, plus my fee on its own line Google Ads, Local Services Ads, or another named media cost. Management and any one-time work are shown separately.
Measured outcomes Recorded calls and forms, checked against the agreed rules, with cost per contact by campaign Calls and forms are counted separately. Calls under the agreed length and spam forms are left out of the totals.
Decision Continue, adjust, reduce, pause, or stop With the next review date and the reason, on the same page as the numbers.

The report does not turn a call into a booking, or a booking into profit. It shows what the ad money bought in calls and forms, and says where the record ends.

What each count means

What each count means
StageWhat is knownHow it is labelled
Platform activityImpressions, clicks, spend, and platform conversionsReported activity
Recorded contactA call or form the tracking captured, counted onceRecorded call or form
Checked contactA call over the agreed length, or a form that passed spam checksChecked contact
Booked jobYour business confirms a scheduled jobIn your own records
Revenue and profitYour invoices and booksIn your own records

A platform conversion is not automatically a real contact, and a lead is not a booked job. The report stops at the checked contact and says so.

What a campaign report is good for

A campaign report still has a job. It shows impressions, clicks, search terms, conversion actions, bids, and placements. It helps diagnose delivery and find technical or structural problems.

What a campaign report is good for
Campaign report questionOne-page report question
How much did the platform spend? What did the spend buy in calls and forms?
How many clicks occurred? How many real contacts came in, counted once?
What was the platform conversion rate? What did each contact cost, by campaign?
Which keywords got impressions?Which searches wasted money, and were they blocked?
Did the account meet the platform target?Should the next dollar go here?

The campaign report diagnoses the channel. The one-page report makes the budget decision visible.

How the monthly workflow works

  1. Fix the period

Define the reporting dates, campaigns, and cost scope. Do not change the period halfway through the review.

  2. Record the spend

Take ad spend from Google Ads billing and show the management fee on its own line.

  3. Count the contacts

Count recorded calls and forms once each. Remove duplicates and test submissions under the written rule.

  4. Check quality

Apply the agreed call length and form checks. Show calls and forms separately.

  5. Follow the money

Break spend and contacts down by campaign and search term. Block the searches that brought nothing useful.

  6. Decide

Compare cost per contact across campaigns. Record continue, adjust, reduce, pause, or stop, together with the next review date.

The formula set

Cost per call or form

ad spend ÷ recorded calls and forms

For one fixed period, counted once under the written rule.

All-in cost per contact

(ad spend + management fee) ÷ recorded calls and forms

Adds the management fee so the full cost is visible.

Taking it further in your own records

If you track which contacts became jobs, you can go one step further yourself. Divide the same all-in cost by the jobs you booked from tracked calls and forms, and you have your cost per booked job. The cost per booked job calculator does the math and compares it with your margin.

What to do next

Use the report to decide what to fix, where to cut spend, and whether the next test makes sense. When the fixed test period ends, this is the page the verdict is written on. If you want to see one for your account, start a conversation.

Questions owners ask

What is your one-page monthly report for Google Ads?

A short owner-facing summary for one defined period. It shows ad spend, my fee on its own line, recorded calls and forms, quality checks, cost per contact by campaign, the searches the money went on, and the decision that follows.

How is your one-page monthly report different from a campaign report?

A campaign report lists everything that happened inside the platform: impressions, clicks, bids, and delivery. The one-page report keeps only what the decision needs: where the money went, what it brought in as calls and forms, and what to do next.

Does the monthly report show booked jobs or revenue?

No. It counts calls and forms that were tested and counted once. Which contacts became jobs, and what they were worth, lives in your own records. You can put the two together with the cost per booked job calculator.

What are the evidence labels in the report?

Reported means a platform record, such as spend or a recorded call. Checked means a contact that passed the agreed call-length and form rules. Illustrative means a worked example that is neither a client result nor a benchmark.

How much work does the client have to do each month?

None is required. Read the page, ask questions, and approve the next step. If a call was wrong or a form was spam, tell me so the rules can be tightened.

What can your one-page monthly report not do?

It cannot create evidence the tracking never collected. It cannot value an untracked call, tell you which contacts became paying customers, or claim profit. It can show exactly what the ad money bought in calls and forms before the next budget decision.
